CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago right-side hitter
Emily Banitt has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Banitt, who picks up the second weekly honor of her career, propelled the Ramblers to an upset victory over No. 16 Purdue on the opening weekend of action. In the upset over the Boilermakers, Loyola's first ranked win since taking down No. 9 Purdue on Sept. 14, 2004, Banitt had a career day offensively. The senior tied a career-high with 19 kills while registering just three errors on 30 total attempts for a .533 hitting percentage. Banitt also chipped in 12 digs for her first double-double of the season while picking up three blocks, two aces and three assists in the win.

Banitt helped the Ramblers also take down Duke on opening weekend, picking up nine kills while adding seven digs in the 3-0 sweep.

For the weekend, Banitt had 33 kills (3.0/set), 27 digs (2.45/set) six blocks and a trio of aces as Loyola went 2-1 to open the 2023 season.

Loyola is back in action this Thursday-Saturday, taking part in the Bowling Green Hampton Inn Invitational.
