Ramblers Break from League Action, Face DePaul Tuesday in Red Line Rivalry

Kick is slated for 2 p.m. CT at Wish Field

CHICAGO (Sept. 18, 2023) – The Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team is preparing to take on crosstown rival DePaul tomorrow (Sept. 19) at Wish Field in Lincoln Park.

LAST TIME OUT
Loyola Chicago opened Atlantic 10 play with a resounding 2-0 win over George Washington last Saturday afternoon on the road. Oscar Dueso scored both of Loyola Chicago's goals as LUC improved to 4-1-1 overall.

NOTES
  • Fresh off a 2-0 triumph over George Washington in its league opener last Saturday, Loyola ends a three-game road swing Tuesday as it faces DePual in Lincoln Park.
  • The shutout win over GW marked LUC's fourth of the year.
    • With its four shutouts, Loyola is tied for the ninth-best shutout differential in NCAA D-I.
  • Oscar Dueso scored both the Loyola's goals, a new career high for the senior. His solid performance earned him this week's A-10 Offensive Player of the Week nod.
  • The 'Blers win over GW was the cherry on top of an already stellar week as LUC bested IUPUI, 5-0, on the road last week as well.
  • Janjic had a game-high two goals and four points, both career-bests, in the win to earn him the A-10 Rookie of the Week plaudit.
    • Janjic was also named last week's A-10 Rookie of the Week following his game-winning goal against Oakland on Sept. 4. The goal was a career first as Loyola won the match, 1-0.
  • The Ramblers have yet to lose a match on the road this year (2-0-1).
  • The 'Blers are tied for the A-10's top spot along with Davidson and Duquesne.
  • With just four goals allowed thus far, Loyola ranks No. 2 in the league in GA.
  • On the opposite side of the field, Loyola Chicago averages 2.167 goals per-game, tying with Fordham for the conference's No. 2 spot.
  • The squad is No. 2 in the A-10's ranking of shots per-game with 17.50. Oscar Dueso leads the team with 19. Nationally, the team ranks tied for fifth in the same category.
  • The team is out-shooting opponents, 105-48. The Ramblers have out-shot every foe in every match thus far.
    • Dueso (3.17 s/pg) and Marc Torrellas (2.83 s/pg) are No. 5 and No. 7, respectively, in the A-10's top shooters.
    • In shots on-goal per-game, the 'Blers rank fourth nationally (7.67). Dueso paces the team with seven cracks on-target.
  • Noel Hansson leads the team in minutes played. He's been on the pitch for all but 11 minutes (against IUPUI) thus far in 2023.
  • LUC is outscoring its foes, 13-4.

THE HISTORY
  • The Red Line Rivalry dates to the 1981 season. DePaul won the inaugural matchup, 6-4.
  • The two teams have met every season since the first matchup in 1981. This year will be the 43rd-straight meeting.
  • Loyola has not lost to DePaul in nine seasons as it owns a 6-0-3 record since 2014.
  • LUC has outscored the Blue Demons in those matchups 17-7 in those matches.
  • Last season when the pair met at Hoyne Field, Fabian Becerra scored twice, and John Gates added two assists, to lead the Ramblers' attack. Billy Hency recorded the game-winner in the 47th minute, as Loyola extended its best start since the 2016 campaign by improving to 3-0-2 with the 3-1 win.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
  • With a 1-3-2 overall mark, the Blue Demons recently dropped their first Big East contest at the hands of Xavier, 4-1.
  • The two teams share a common foe in the Lindenwood Lions. Both clubs beat the Lions - LUC won at home, 2-0, while DePaul won at home as well, 1-0.
  • Of the three Blue Demons' goals this season, Colin Mackey and Callum Watts have scored two while the team was credited with the third.
  • Gandhi Cruz mans the DePaul pipes. He's allowed eight goals through 103 shots faced and has made 35 saves, the most in the conference.

LUC returns home Saturday (Sept. 23) as it faces Duquesne at 3 p.m. CT on Hoyne Field.
