CHICAGO (Sept. 23, 2023) – The Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team battled the Duquesne Dukes to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at Loyola Soccer Park.
Lukas Ender's goal, an equalizer in the 64
th minute, helped the Ramblers secure one point in Atlantic 10 play.
"I think ultimately, it's really hard to get results in this league. It's really hard," said head Loyola coach
Steve Bode. "Duquesne is a team that will get results - will get wins and ties for sure this season - with how they play. Nothing is a given in this league. So, we got one point today, we're dissatisfied, for sure, we feel like we deserve more. But at the same time, we did get the point."
How it Happened
The Ramblers (5-1-2, 1-0-1 A10) sent off six first half shots, including three on-goal, but none found the back of the net as the Loyola backline held the Dukes (4-2-2, 1-0-1 A10) to just one shot.
Coming out of the halftime break, the 'Blers sent off five shots on-goal, but Duquesne keeper Zoltan Nagy kept the attempts in front of him.
John Gates had a great crack on-target in the 58
th minute of play, but a diving save kept the match level at 0-0.
Â
In the 63
rd minute of action, the Dukes broke the stalemate with a goal. Tate Mohney whipped the ball into the box from the right side of the field before Nate Dragisich completed the process with a strike past keeper
Aidan Crawford.
The Ramblers quickly regained their composer and found the equalizer in the 64
th minute when
Benni Hofmann found
Lukas Ender off a corner kick. Hofmann placed the ball perfectly in the box where Ender rifled the ball in the net with his head, knotting the match, 1-1.
"I'm really happy for Lukas. He is really good with his head in the box. He's had really close chances where he didn't score or got an assist with his head - so I was really happy to see him step up, find the back post, and head it in."
Through the remainder of the contest, LUC rocketed off four shots (two on-goal) while holding Duquesne to just one, however, no one scored as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
