CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago cross country held the 44
th annual Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational Friday morning at the Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course. The meet was highlighted by a fourth-place finish for the Rambler men in the Tom Cooney Championship 8k. Loyola finished ahead of No. 20 Tulsa and No. 23 Ole Miss.
Leading the men's action was Wisconsin who took first and second individually and the overall team title.
Chris Devaney led Loyola placing third overall. Devaney was just three seconds shy of a personal record clocking 23:34.8 in Friday's race.
Jason Clayton landed in the top-20 at 17
th overall. His time of 24:03.9 was just half of a second off of a PR.
Up next on the Rambler leaderboards were
Gabe Smit and
Jake Phillips who finished within a few seconds of each other. Smit posted a time of 24:13.4, while Phillips trailed at 24:16.1. Both times go down as new personal bests.
The top-five was capped with former Rookie of the Week
Cael Mulholland coming in at 24:23.3. It marked his first 8k in the maroon & gold.
In the Tom Cooney Women's Championship 6k, Furman took home the team title after receiving votes in this week's national poll, while Gonzaga's Rosina Machu earned the individual title by nearly 25 seconds. The Rambler women placed 15th overall in Friday's action.
Delia McDade-Clay led the Loyola pack clocking a time of 21:08.3, while
Eileen Seebon placed second on the Rambler charts with a time of 21:17.2 following up her Rookie of the Week performance with another PR.
Slightly behind Seebon on the course, was junior runner
Grace Jostock. She finished with a time of 21:29.1.
Rounding out the Loyola top-five were
Lily Mataway and
Julia Isham. Mataway clocked 21:59.4, while Isham was at 22:00.6. Isham's time was a PR in her Rambler debut.
Up next, the Ramblers will gear-up for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Oct. 13 held in Madison, Wisconsin.
