Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Flames Edge Ramblers Friday Night

CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago men's soccer fell for the first time this season to crosstown rival UIC. The Flames put to goals away on free kicks to escape with a 2-1 win over the Ramblers. Oscar Dueso scored for the Ramblers in the loss.

Loyola now sits at 2-1-1 overall.

"Our guys are disappointed in the result, but I think our performance in the first half was very high level," said head coach Steve Bode. "We created a lot of chances and scored one. Their keeper made some great saves to keep us at one. All in all, I wasn't disappointed in our effort or the performance. It was just a difficult result."

How It Happened
The Flames got off to a hot start right out of the kickoff forcing a Loyola foul to set up for a free kick five yards out of the box. Jesus De Vicente put the ball low left with a bounce into the back of the net helping UIC to a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute.

The Ramblers responded with two shots on goal by the 13th minute, but Oren Asher made stops on both attempts to keep them scoreless.

Loyola finally broke through the defense at the 28:41 mark with the equalizer. John Gates took the ball to the right corner of the box crossing the ball to Julian Cisneros. Cisneros drew the goalkeeper far right with anticipation of a shot, but he headed it down to the feet of Dueso. Dueso sunk a wide-open look and the match was tied, 1-1.

After the halftime break, Loyola had the first two strike of the second, but it was UIC who would retake the lead. The Flames drew another foul in the 65th minute setting up just outside the box for a free kick. Paul Brauckmann stepped up for UIC and found a hole high left to retake the lead over Loyola, 2-1.

Noel Hansson and Cisneros had near misses down the stretch as the Ramblers tried to tie the match once again, but UIC held on for the win, 2-1.
