MADISON, Wis. – Competing in a talent-packed field at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals Invite on Saturday, five members of the Loyola University Chicago men's cross country team raced in the Men's 8K 'A' event on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course.
The meet provided a final preparation before the Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships on Nov. 2 in Richmond, Va., and the NCAA Midwest Regional in Peoria, Ill., on Nov. 15.
19 of the USTFCCCA's top-30 teams competed in the pre-nationals event, including seven from the top 10 and 13 from the top-20. In the latest USTFCCCA rankings, the Loyola Chicago men earned votes in the National Coaches' Poll and hold the No. 3 spot in the Midwest Region.
James Lawrence led a pack of seven Ramblers, clocking a 23:48.7 to shave two seconds off his personal record in the 8K. Not far behind was
Miguel Abaitua who also logged a PR with his time of 23:55.7.
Rounding out Loyola Chicago's top-3 finishers was
Miles Clisham who raced a 24:19.4. Running a 24:25.3,
Jake Phillips was the fourth Rambler to cross the finish line.
Cael Mulholland ended the race behind him with his time of 24:36.1. Â
Gabe Smit (25:03.6) and
Woody Jerome (25:08.3) finished in succession to cap the Ramblers' day.
