Ramblers Sweep Patriots on Senior Day

CHICAGO – The Ramblers cruised to their second straight sweep over the Patriots Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. Ann Marie Remmes posted a perfect hitting percentage with nine kills, while Bree Borum notched her fifth consecutive double-double and 14th of the season.

Loyola Chicago improves to 11-11 overall and 6-5 in A-10 play.

"I'm really proud of the team for their response this weekend," said head coach Amanda Berkley. "There were some really great hitting percentages all around, including the team hitting percentage. I thought Bree did a really nice job of finding our hitters and putting them in positions to get kills. She had a really good match setting the ball, while Ann Marie did a great job hitting. She hit a thousand - I'll take that any day."

Marta Cvitkovic led the match with 13 kills, hitting .429, while Esma Ajanovic added 10, hitting .409. Olivia Lovett posted a .545 hitting percentage with seven kills. As a unit, the Ramblers hit .436.

Borum's fifth straight double-double came with 34 assists and 13 digs. She added five kills.

Ajanovic led the Ramblers with five blocks.

How It Happened:
Set One: George Mason didn't make the start easy for the Ramblers, taking the first lead and challenging Loyola point for point. The Ramblers finally broke through with a 3-0 run with an Lovett kill to go up 8-5. Loyola kept its rhythm with a 6-1 stretch, forcing GMU to use both its timeouts. Ajanovic, Remmes, and Cvitkovic all tallied kills in the run for a seven-point lead. Despite two quick kills from the Patriots, they couldn't shake the Ramblers who ran away with the 25-15 win after putting up four unanswered to end the set. Remmes had two of the final kills.

Set Two: The Ramblers stayed hot as Borum and Remmes had back to back kills, helping Loyola open on a 7-2 run into the first GMU timeout. The Patriots couldn't regroup and the Ramblers built their lead to 10 on an Ajanovic kill, 14-4. Loyola took its largest lead yet at 13 as Lovett served up an ace, 19-6. Remmes put the 20th point on the board and Loyola cruised to a 25-14 win off Lovett's kill for set point.

Set Three: It didn't take long for Loyola to pull away in the third. Avary DeBlieck and Ajanovic went for back to back kills and teamed up for a block to complete a 3-0 run to go up 6-4 over the Patriots. They held on to the lead from that point forward, increasing it to eight-points with another block assist from Borum and Remmes, 15-7. GMU got within three with four unanswered points, but Loyola erased it with its own four straight sparked with a Borum kill and capped with a Borum ace. Ajanovic set the Ramblers up for match point with her final kill of the day, while Sam Falk sealed the win on an ace, 25-17.
