How It Happened
Set One: Duquesne held an early edge over Loyola as an Emersen Schrom ace helped the Dukes to a 4-2 lead. Three straight Rambler attack errors helped the Dukes widen the gap to four, 7-3. Loyola fought back to tie the match 12-12 with a pair of kills from Remmes and
Olivia Lovett and an Ajanovic ace. Midway through, Borum was able to sneak in an attack to spark a 4-0 run to take over the lead. She'd get one more kill, while
Avary DeBlieck and Cvitkovic each tallied one to take a 17-14 lead. The Dukes would tie it at 19 and again at 24, but Remmes and Borum went for back-to-back kills, coming away on top, 26-24.
Set Two: Much like the first, Duquesne jumped ahead 3-1 to start the second. Loyola responded on a 3-0 run with DeBlieck's kill swinging the lead in the Ramblers' favor, 4-3. The Ramblers and Dukes would trade points until Remmes got a kill, sparking a 15-1 run to end the set. Two straight Duquesne attack errors made it 18-10, while Schrom broke up Loyola's scoring with a kill. It was the final point for the Dukes as
Ella Ramsay went for two straight kills, which were the first of the final seven unanswered. Cvitkovic capped the set with her own pair. Loyola won, 25-11.
Set Three: The Ramblers kept rolling into the third with three different players scoring in the opening 5-0 stretch. Loyola quickly went up 7-1 with two kills from Borum and Cvitkovic. The Dukes slowly chipped away, tying it 13-13 on a 3-0 run with kills from Carsyn Henschen and Schrom. The Ramblers regained a bit of a gap with four consecutive points capped by Borum with another kill, 17-13. Duquesne didn't quit, and Schrom was able to get a late kill to give the Dukes a 20-19 edge down the stretch. The match would see two more ties before Loyola got to match point on a Duquesne attack error. Remmes delivered the final kill to win, 25-23.
