CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago swept its sixth straight match Friday night in the opener vs. Fordham. Three Ramblers tallied double-digit kills, while
Sam Falk posted her first career double-double.
The Ramblers improve to 15-11 overall and 10-5 in A-10 play.
"I thought offensively we had a really good match, especially after set two when we only had four hitting errors," said head coach
Amanda Berkley. "Overall, the team did a good job of adjusting it as the match went on. There were certain things that we saw on film that we needed to adjust in game, and I thought they did a good job of making those changes."
Falk finished with 10 assists and 10 digs to become the third Rambler with a double-double this season.
Marta Cvitkovic led Loyola with 12 kills, while
Olivia Lovett had 11.
Ann Marie Remmes added 10 and hit .563 to lead the Ramblers.
Bree Borum added seven kills, 32 assists, and eight digs.
How It Happened
Set One: The Ramblers jumped ahead 3-1 with back-to-back kills from Borum and Remmes, but the Rams swung the lead 6-4 for a 4-0 run to follow. Loyola went on a 5-1 run to regain control for the remainder of the set. Remmes then sparked five unanswered that also saw kills from Lovett and Borum and an ace from
Esma Ajanovic to go up 15-9. Fordham cut the lead to three with a kill and ace from Moody, 18-15. Brown and Woodrow would do the same for the Rams down the stretch, 21-18, but Loyola closed the set with the final four points to win, 25-18.
Set Two: The Rams came out strong in the second set getting out to a 5-1 lead with three kills from Moody. Loyola chipped away and tied it 6-6 with two straight kills from Cvitkovic and
Avary DeBlieck. The Ramblers then went on a dominant 10-1 run to go up 17-9. Four different players recorded kills, while Cvitkovic also had an ace in the stretch. The lead increased to 10 with four more unanswered. Remmes, Lovett, and Borum had three straight kills, making it 21-11. Loyola capped it with one final 3-0 run. Remmes' ace ended the set, 25-14.
Set Three: Three early attack errors allowed Fordham to take a 4-1 lead before Loyola fought back to tie it 4-all. Two consecutive errors from the Rams gave Loyola its first lead of the night, while Cvitkovic and Ajanovic tallied back-to-back kills for a 10-7 edge. Loyola used two 3-0 runs to stay ahead. Remmes opened one with a kill and capped it with an ace as the Ramblers led 18-13. Fordham would cut it to three two more time, but Loyola scored the final four points with a Remmes kill for match point, 25-18.
