CHICAGO –
Bree Borum tallied her fifth triple-double of the season, helping Loyola Chicago to its seventh straight sweep against Fordham in the home finale. Borum tallied 12 kills, 33 assists, and 13 digs.
The Ramblers improve to 16-11 overall and 11-5 in A-10 play.
"I thought offensively we had another good match," said head coach
Amanda Berkley. "Our right side did a really nice job, especially Esma. She was able to score a bunch and so did Bree. It's funny, but I add Bree in as the right side because she scored so much today. I am really proud of the team for playing how they did and getting a solid team win today."
Esma Ajanovic matched Borum's team-high 12 kills. She hit .550, while Borum hit .588. Ajanovic added seven digs.
Avary DeBlieck added eight kills, while
Sam Falk finished with eight assists and five digs.
How It Happened
Set One: Loyola and Fordham were neck and neck to start the first set. There were seven ties before the Ramblers pulled away on a 7-0 run. Borum had three kills in the run, including the final point to go up, 16-9. Loyola remained in control and scored five unanswered to close the set. DeBlieck had a kill for a 10-point lead at 23-13, while
Olivia Lovett delivered the final blow, 25-13.
Set Two: The Ramblers kept rolling into the second, jumping ahead 9-2.
Ann Marie Remmes tallied a kill an ace, Cvitkovic recorded a kill, and Borum added two more kills to her total with a 5-0 cap to the run. Lauryn Sweneey wrapped a 3-0 run for the Rams, cutting the lead to 18-15, while Lorenza Rosenkilde got them back within three on another kill, 20-17, but the set was claimed by Lovett once again with an ace to win, 25-19.
Set Three: Loyola's dominance continues as the Ramblers saw a 7-2 open to the third set. Falk got things going with an ace on first serve, while Cvitkovic's kill gave them the five-point lead. The Rams battled back with three straight kills from three different players to tie the set at 9-all. Loyola built back some separation with some help on attack errors to regain a five-point edge, 17-12. Borum added another kill, sparking an 8-2 ending to the match. DeBlieck would tally the final two Loyola points on kills to win, 25-16.
