Ramblers Meet La Salle in Philadelphia

Tip-off set for 5:30 p.m. CT on ESPN+

The Loyola University Chicago women's basketball team looks to snap its three-game skid tomorrow (Feb. 8) as the team preps for La Salle on the on the road. Tip-off from Tom Gola Arena in Philly is set for 5:30 p.m. CT on ESPN+.

Quick Hits
  • Without a home-and-home series against La Salle, this is Loyola Chicago and the Explorers' only matchup in the 2023-24 regular season.
  • Most recently, Loyola fell, 61-52, to George Mason at Gentile Arena. The loss marked the team's first three-game skid of 2023-24.
  • Loyola Chicago enters Thursday having played the top-two team in the Atlantic 10 back-to-back, hosting St. Joe's Wednesday (Jan. 31) and GMU Saturday (Feb. 3). In both matchups, Loyola's defense held the foes to below their season-average point totals (67.3 for St. Joes and 74.0 for GMU).
  • The Maroon and Gold have shot the ball at a 43-percent clip or better in five of their past six games, including a season-high 58-percent in their 79-66 win at UMass Jan. 17.
  • LUC out-rebounded George Mason, 36-30, on Saturday. Loyola has won the battle on the glass in three of its last five contests. 
  • Alyssa Fisher and Sam Galanopoulos both average north of 30 minutes per game on the floor. The duo have scored in double-digits in Loyola's past six games.
  • Sharing the ball efficiently, Loyola's 15.1 assists per game ranks 67th in the nation and second in the A-10. LUC has tallied more assists than its opponent in 10 of its 22 games. Galanopoulos, whose 4.3 assists per game leads the team and ranks fourth in the league, has dished out three-plus assists in the past five games.
  • The Ramblers are in the nation's top-60 (55th) in 3-point percentage with their 35-percent clip.
  • Loyola Chicago fans will be excited to learn that Roisin Grandberry and Kendall Hendrix, two future Ramblers, were recently tabbed as 2024 McDonald's All American Games Nominees.
2023-24 Rambler Bites
  • Seven letterwinners return to the roster, including three starters. The Ramblers welcome six newcomers, including two freshman and four transfers.
  • In addition to new players, Loyola added assistant coach Simon Harris and assistant coach Jenna Rubino-McCormick to the program in the off-season.
  • Head coach Allison Guth is in her second season at the helm of Loyola. She enters her eighth year as a head coach after spending the first six seasons at Yale.
Scouting The La Salle Explorers
  • In his sixth season at the helm of La Salle, Mountain MacGillivrayhas guided his team to a 7-14 overall mark and a 4-6 record in Atlantic 10 play.
  • Most recently, the Explorers took Dayton to overtime, but fell, 72-69.
  • Molly Masciantonio paced La Salle with 18 points. Nicole Melious (11), Jolene Armendariz (11), and Makayla Miller (10) also scored in double figures.
  • The Explorers have a solid perimeter defense as they hold their foes to a 28-percent clip from downtown - the third best mark in the conference.
  • Meanwhile, La Salle cashes in 7.6 threes per game, the third most in the league.
All-Time Against La Salle
  • Loyola has played La Salle to a 1-1 all-time series.
  • In the team's first-ever meeting, Loyola fell to La Salle, 48-45, on Dec. 8, 2011. It was Loyola's first game in the freshly remolded Gentile Arena.
  • Loyola logged its first-ever win over La Salle the following season on Nov. 11, 2012. It was a 56-50 road win for the 'Blers.  
  • Simone Law and Monica Albano led the way for Loyola, scoring 11 points each.
