CARBONDALE, Ill. – On day two of the Coach B Classic, the Ramblers came away with the series sweep vs. Green Bay winning 8-2. Southern Illinois then edged Loyola Chicago 3-2 in the final game.
Loyola improves to 10-10 on the year.
"Our victory against Green Bay this morning was largely in part of all three parts of our game showing up today," said head coach
Alicia Abbott. "We put up a tough fight against SIU that came down to two small but defining moments. Excited to look forward to heading into A-10 play next weekend."
Game One: Loyola 8, Green Bay 2
The Phoenix got on the board first with a two-run homer in the first inning, but the Ramblers responded with eight unanswered to sweep the series.
Teagan Sopczak got the scoring started with a three-run triple in the bottom of the first to take a 3-2 lead. She struck again in the third bringing in a run on a single up the middle.
The third inning action continued with another triple off the bat of
Liz Sedakis, and she went on to score off a single from
Ava Bieneman. Loyola jumped ahead 6-2 in the third.
Loyola plated two more runs in the fourth, highlighted by Sopczak's third hit and fifth RBI of the game. The Ramblers won, 8-2.
Inside the Box Score
- Loyola tallied 10 hits.
- Sopczak went 3-for-3 at the plate with five RBI.
- Bieneman went 2-for-4, while Lesnicki and
Sierra Sass finished 2-for-3.
- Lesnicki (double), Sopczak (triple), and Sedakis (triple) had multi-base hits for the Ramblers.

Bailey Johnson made the start in the circle. She retired two batters.

Andie Broniewicz pitched the remaining 5.1 innings. She had one strikeout and picked up the win.
Game Two: SIU 3, Loyola 2
Loyola took a quick lead in game two of Sunday's play with a Barnett two-run blast to clear the bases and take a 2-0 edge.
The Ramblers held on until the Salukis tied the game in the second with a two-run homer of their own.
Loyola stranded two in the third and fifth before SIU took advantage of an error in the bottom of the fifth to plate the winning run.
In the final two innings, the Ramblers would get two on base in each frame, but they couldn't convert. SIU wins, 3-2.

- The Ramblers tallied seven hits.
- Wallace and Barnett had two each.
