Men's Soccer Announces 2024 Signing Class

Ramblers add 10 signees to 2024 roster

CHICAGO – Head coach Steve Bode of the Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team inked 10 signatures to his 2024 roster. The class, which features student-athletes from Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Wisconsin, and Sweden, will help the Ramblers' competitiveness this fall.

"We could not be more excited to announce this 2024 recruiting class," said Bode. "Our staff has worked extremely hard to secure this highly talented group. All these student-athletes have a passion for Loyola and our men's soccer program. This class also possesses all the attributes we look for when we recruit - starting with high character and work ethic. We cannot wait to get them to Chicago this August."

Charlie Lacy | 5-9, OB/F | Ann Arbor, Mich. (Skyline) | Michigan Wolves
An Ann Arbor, Mich. product who played three seasons of varsity soccer at Skyline, in addition to competing with Michigan Wolves MLS Next. A formidable athlete whose versatility allows him to play both on the backline and in the attacking third, Lacy was named to the 2022 All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) team. Additionally, Lacy recently made a USL League Two Playoff appearance with AFC Ann Arbor in 2023.

Daniel Firs | 6-2, CB | Park Ridge, Ill. (Maine South) | Sockers FC
Firs joins the Ramblers after attending Maine South High School in Park Ridge, Ill., and a successful stint with Sockers FC Chicago. The center back totaled five goals as a freshman, eight as a sophomore, seven as a junior, and six as a senior for a total of 26. The 2020-21 season saw Firs' defensive unit help Sockers FC team win the top position in the Mid-American Region of MLS NEXT Soccer League, allowing the fewest goals through the season.

Benji Chavarria | 5-8, F | Elkhart, Ind. | Indy Eleven
Hailing from Elkhart, Ind., Chavarria will join Loyola Chicago after playing for Indy Eleven, an MLS NEXT Academy member club team. Chavarria was a part of the Indy Eleven Academy U19 team that clinched its first-ever USL Academy League Playoffs Championship in December 2021 at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Calvin Hess | 5-11, RW/RB | Racine, Wis. (Wisconsin Virtual Learning) | Bavarian United SC
Originally from Racine, Wis., Hess is a 2024 graduate of Wisconsin Virtual Learning and played club soccer for both Chicago Fire FC (fall 2020 - spring 2023) and Bavarian United SC (2023 - 2024) in the MLS NEXT league. The right back/right winger is a National Honors Society member and a High Honor Roll nominee. Aside from soccer, Hess is a third-degree black belt in Taekwondo.

David Siemionko | 5-10, CDM | Mount Prospect, Ill. (Hersey) | Chicago FC United
Siemionko attended John Hersey High School and is from Mount Prospect, Ill. Versatile on the pitch, he plays in a defensive midfielder position. Siemionko has played club soccer for Chicago FC United and is an Honor Roll nominee at Hersey.

Beck Rettenmaier | 6-0, F | Leawood, Kan. (Shawnee Mission East) | Kansas City Scott Gallagher SC
The Sunflower State continues to provide the Ramblers with talent as Rettenmaier joins Loyola Chicago after attending Shawnee Mission East High School in Leawood, Kansas. Rettenmaier played club soccer with Kansas City Scott Gallagher SC along with earning four varsity letters in soccer at Shawnee Mission East. With 38 goals and 30 assists to his name, Rettenmaier is a two-time All-Sunflower League First Team member and an All-State Second Team (sophomore) and First Team (junior) honoree. The 6-foot-0 forward also plays basketball and is a National Honors Society student-athlete.

Luka Ivancic | 5-11, MF | Chicago, Ill. (Northside College Prep) | Sockers FC
A Chicago native who graduated from Northside College Preparatory, the No. 2 ranked high school in the state, which just four miles away from Rogers Park. Ivancic played for five years with the MLS NEXT Chicago Fire Soccer Academy and MLS NEXT Pro Chicago Fire II squad. With the Fire, Ivancic had the opportunity to compete in the Generation Adidas Cup against international teams such as Manchester United. Ivancic had the privilege of being called up to the U16 Croatian Youth National Team camp and the 2023 Capelli Sport USA All-Star Team where he competed against more international teams in a tournament in Køge, Denmark. The center mid played club soccer for two seasons with U19 MLS NEXT Sockers FC. His father, Mario Ivancic, played amateur soccer in Croatia.

Liam O'Donoghue | 6-2, D/MF | Geneva, Ill. (Geneva) | Rockford Raptors ECNL
O'Donoghue joins the Ramblers after being a three-year varsity starter at Geneva. O'Donoghue also played club soccer for Raptors ECNL in Rockford, Ill. He scored 15 goals and tallied 10 assists through his high school career. As a defensive mid, he led the DuKane Conference in goals and was second in assists his senior year. O'Donoghue was tabbed to an All-Conference, All-Sectional, and All-Area team in 2023. He was honored as the DuKane Conference Player of the Year as a senior, the first in program history since 2009, as well as an All-State and All-Area honoree. Additionally, after his senior campaign, O'Donoghue was named the Kane County Chronicle Boys Soccer Player of the Year.

Arved von Vegesack | 6-2, F | Stockholm, Sweden (Nacka gymnasium) | Vasalund IF
Von Vegesack is an international student-athlete hailing from Stockholm who played in the Swedish Youth League Second Tier with Nacka gymnasium. He scored 17 goals in 2023 with the U19 program and 10 in 2022 with the U17's. His U17 squad were league runners-up.

Nicholas Roe | 6-0, CB | Naperville, Ill. (Benet Academy) | Galaxy SC
Roe is a 2024 graduate of Benet Academy in Lisle, Ill. where he earned four varsity letters in soccer. Roe also played club soccer with Galaxy FC. He scored 18 goals at Benet, including eight his senior year (team-high), and totaled 15 assists. Roe was named All-East Suburban Catholic Conference (ESCC) and All-Area four times throughout high school. The 2023 ESCC Defender of the Year earned an All-State nod in 2024 after his senior season. With Galaxy Soccer Club, he was named to the 2022 and 2023 USYS Nationals Best XI.
