CHICAGO – The Ramblers took their second walk-off win over the Patriots to clinch the series win Sunday afternoon. The game went to extra innings before
Jocelyn Currie brought
Teagan Sopczak home in the eighth for the 6-5 win.
With the win, Loyola sits at 14-14 overall and 3-3 in A-10 play.
"Our team showed grit and that they could score by stringing together hits as well as the long ball," said head coach
Alicia Abbott. "Today was about being one run better, and they did exactly that."
Sunday's scoring action tipped off with the Patriots jumping ahead 2-0 in the second with a two-run homer from Sydney Bales, while the Ramblers tied it with an active third inning.
Currie and
Riley Owens tallied back-to-back hits, while Currie would steal home for the first run. Loyola then filled the bases allowing for
Haley Wallace's walk to plate the tying run.
The Ramblers kept the momentum with a three-run fifth inning.
Ava Bieneman led off with a single up the middle and came home with a two-run blast from
Sydney Barnett. Two at-bats later, Sopczak sent another over the fence, and Loyola led 5-2.
By the top of the seventh, the Patriots battled back to tie the game 5-5. Loyola got the winning run on base in the bottom frame, but the game went to extras. Sopczak led off with a single and scored the game winning run on a single to center from Currie. Ramblers won, 6-5.
