DAYTON, Ohio – Loyola Chicago continued Atlantic 10 play on the road Friday opening a three-game series at Dayton. For the third time in the last four games, the Ramblers took a game to extra innings. The Flyers managed to take game one in the 10
th inning, 7-3.
With the loss, Loyola falls to 14-16 overall, 3-4 in A-10 action.
The Ramblers got ahead early with
Riley Owens leading off the game with a walk.
Sydney Barnett plated her for a 1-0 lead with a double down the left field line. Kapsimalis didn't let Loyola hold on to the lead long as she doubled for Dayton in the bottom frame to bring in the tying run.
The next four innings were a defensive battle until Kapsimalis struck again for the Flyers. She hit a two-run homer in the sixth to take a 3-1 edge. The Ramblers rallied in the seventh with a two-run single by
Jocelyn Currie to force extras.
Peyton Pepkowski continued to battle for Loyola through the seventh, eighth, and ninth by retiring three more Flyers to keep things deadlocked, 3-3. Loyola loaded the bases in the 10
th but couldn't bring a runner in.
Dayton responded loading the bases in the bottom without an out. Kapsimalis hit a walk-off grand slam, and Dayton took a 7-3 win.
