Pepkowski Retires 17, Broniewicz Tosses No-Hitter

Ramblers sweep Saturday doubleheader vs. Bonnies

CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago's pitchers stunned in a pair of shutouts against St. Bonaventure Saturday afternoon. Peyton Pepkowski struck out a career-high 17 batters in game one, while Andie Broniewicz tossed a no hitter in game two. Both wins went down as 4-0.
 
The Ramblers improve to 18-19 overall and 7-7 in A-10 play.

"Today was a great day for our Ramblers," said head coach Alicia Abbott. "Our pitchers did an excellent job both games and our hitters manufactured the runs they needed. I'm proud of how they showed up and did their jobs today."
 
Game One: Loyola 4, St. Bonaventure 0
Despite a lead-off double for Wang to open the game, the first couple of innings at Hoyne were quiet until Loyola struck in the third.
 
Haley Wallace plated Jocelyn Currie on a double for an early 1-0 lead. Sydney Barnett then stepped up to hit a two-run homer bringing Wallace home with her for a 3-0 edge heading into the fourth.
 
The Ramblers would get one more in the sixth inning. Sophia Remsik was brought home on Teagan Sopczak's sac fly to right. The Bonnies made a late attempt in the seventh with two base runners, but Loyola held on for a 4-0 win.

- Pepkowski's 17 strikeouts is a new career-high. Her previous best was 13 tossed twice.
- She improves to 10-9 in the circle and tallied her sixth shutout of the season.
- The Ramblers recorded seven hits.
- Barnett went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run to lead Loyola.
- The win marks Loyola's seventh shutout.
 
Game Two: Loyola 4, St. Bonaventure 0
Game two's action got going late in the second inning. Sierra Sass got on base with a single to the pitcher that she paired with a stolen base to get in scoring position. Abbie Gregus hit a deep ball to center field forcing a fielding error to score Sass for a 1-0 advantage.
 
The Ramblers tacked on two more in the third. Ava Bieneman led off with a walk. She stole her way to second, while Wallace advanced her to third. Barnett's single to right brought Bieneman home. The Bonnies then walked in a late run, and Loyola led 3-0.
 
In the fifth, Hannah Nalley singled up the middle for a late spark. A wild pitch and ground out advanced her to third. With a good lead off, Nalley made it to home on a sac bunt from Sopczak. The Ramblers went on to win 4-0.

- Broniewicz recorded the first no-hitter of the season and second of her career.
- She recorded one last year against Bradley.
- It's the ninth no-hitter in program history.
- Loyola finished with six hits.
- Nalley went 2-for-3 with a run scored to lead the Ramblers.
