KINGSTON, R.I. – Loyola Chicago won the series over Rhode Island Sunday morning with a 6-0 shutout.
Peyton Pepkowski tossed her sixth shutout of the season a struck out eight Rams in her ninth win.
The Ramblers improve to 16-19 overall and 5-7 in A-10 play.
"Today was a great team win," said head coach
Alicia Abbott. "Pep looked great on the mound and defense stepped up behind her. We both manufactured runs and put the long ball in play."
Loyola pulled ahead early Sunday with back-to-back hits by
Ava Bieneman and
Haley Wallace to open the first. Wallace's double plated Bieneman for a 1-0 lead. Bieneman scored again in the third inning to double the lead.
In the fifth, the Ramblers used a pair of doubles to score
Sophia Remsik.
Liz Sedakis hit a sac fly to bring Wallace home, and Loyola led 4-0 by the end of the inning.
Loyola added two more runs in the seventh. Sedakis doubled with one out and came home two at-bats later with a two-run homer by
Abbie Gregus.
The Rams were held to five hits and couldn't convert. Loyola wins, 6-0.
