Clayton's NCAA Championships Run Ends in Quarterfinal Round

Fayetteville, Ark. - Jason Clayton of Loyola Chicago raced hard Friday in the NCAA Championships' West Quarterfinal round, but was ultimately eliminated after placing ninth in his 1,500m heat at Arkansas' John McDonnell Field.

Clayton clocked a 3:43.87 which put him 18th overall and ninth in his heat. The top-5 from each heat (two heats) and the next two fastest times advanced to the NCAA Championships' semifinals in Eugene, Ore. One-of-24 student-athletes racing in the 1,500m today, Clayton reached the quarterfinal round after placing fifth in his first round heat this past Wednesday with a time of 3:43.10. His fastest-ever 1,500m time was a 3:41.76 when he raced at the 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational.

Clayton came in to the championships ranked 41st in the nation, and finished 18th in the NCAA 1,500 Quarterfinal.

Clayton's name appears five times in Loyola's track and field all-time records, including the second fastest outdoor 5K time ever recorded by a Rambler, which he set this year.
