Track and Field Programs Recognized by USTFCCCA for Academic Excellence

Clayton, Devaney earn individual honors to go along with team accolades

CHICAGO - Chris Devaney and Jason Clayton of the Loyola University Chicago track and field team received USTFCCCA Collegiate All-Academic Honors, the organization announced Monday. Additionally, the men's and women's track and field teams were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams.

Programs with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale are considered for the USTFCCCA's team academic award. The Rambler women finished the academic year with a 3.55 GPA while the men combined for a 3.58 GPA.

Clayton, a Melbourne, Australia, native, who carries a 3.52 GPA as a finance major, logged an impressive outdoor season for the Ramblers this past spring. Clayton took first place at the 2024 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships 5k and reached the NCAA West 1,500 Quarterfinal. Additionally, Clayton ran an impressive 3:57.06-minute mile recently at the HOKA Festival Of Miles in St. Louis. His time broke the school record of 3:59.53, which he himself had previously set at the same event in 2022.

Originally from New Plymouth, New Zealand, Devaney graduated from Loyola Chicago this spring with a master's in finance, earning a 3.78 GPA. He earned the title of 2024 Atlantic 10 Outdoor 10k Champion and set four top-3 all-time records at Loyola, including the fastest 10k time in the school's history. Devaney qualified for the NCAA Championships Outdoor 10k semifinals for the second consecutive season, ranking 39th nationally in the event. Today's award goes along with his A-10 Outdoor All-Academic Team plaudit he logged in June.
