Loyola Chicago Faces Bowling Green in Alopecia Awareness Match

Ramblers soccer supports Alopecia Areata Foundation.

LEADING OFF 
After seeing its first loss of the season at Wisconsin, Loyola Chicago is back at home to host Bowling Green at Loyola Soccer Park on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. in the Alopecia Awareness game. 

QUICK KICKS 

  • The Ramblers kept Wisconsin scoreless for 75 minutes and took five shots, three on goal, before the Badgers opened scoring and put away three goals.
  • Redshirt freshman goalie Allison Deardorff recorded another 90 minutes and four saves against Wisconsin, matching her season and career highs in minutes and saves. 
  • Deardorff, Alaina Abel and Jaimee Cibulka have started and played all 90 minutes on the pitch in every game so far this season. 
  • Loyola faces its third and final Big Ten opponent of the regular season at Michigan State on Sunday, Sept. 8.  

SCOUTING BOWLING GREEN 
Bowling Green is 2-1-0 so far this season, collecting wins over Detroit Mercy (3-1) and Findlay (3-0). The Falcons' one loss was to Atlantic 10 team Duquesne, a 2-0 shutout. Last season, Bowling Green finished 10-6-2 overall and 8-1-2 in conference play. They fell 2-1 to Ohio in the semifinals of the 2023 MAC tournament. 

FALCONS TO WATCH 

  • Redshirt junior goalkeepr Madison Vukas has recorded nine saves across Bowling Green's first three games, four in the season opener victory (3-1) over Detroit Mercy, one save in her first complete-match shutout against Findlay and four in the loss against Duquesne. Last season, Vukas finished 8-3-2 with 41 saves, a save percentage of .804 and goals-against average of 1.11.  
  • Junior forward Brynn Gardner is essential to Bowling Green's attack. Last season, the Ohio native led the team in goals (6) and points (16), and was second on the team in assists (4). She had three game-winning goals and was named to the All-MAC First Team as well as the OCSA All-Ohio Second Team. So far this season, Gardner has one goal and an assist. 
  • Senior defender Isabelle Gilmore is a staple in the Falcons' backline, helping the team to five shutouts and two 0-0 draws last season. She was named to the 2023 All-MAC First Team and the MAC All-Tournament Team. This year, Gilmore has already recorded two 90-minute matches. 

SERIES HISTORY 

Loyola leads the short series with Bowling Green, 2-1. Last season, the Falcons shut out the Ramblers, 2-0. In back-to-back seasons in 2011 and 2012, Loyola shut out Bowling Green, 1-0.
