Loyola Chicago Hosts DePaul for Red Line Rivalry, Hustle to Hoyne

Kick off is set for 7 p.m. on Hoyne Field

CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team is set to "Hustle to Hoyne" tomorrow (Sept. 24) as the team breaks from league play for its Red Line Rivalry match against DePaul.

PROMOTIONS
  • Rambler fans can march to Hoyne Field with the Loyola pep band and cheerleaders. Meet at 5:30 p.m. in St. Ignatius Community Plaza to hear from Head Coach Steve Bode before heading to Hoyne at 6 p.m.
  • Students will score a free Red Line Rivalry t-shirt at the game.
KICKING OFF
  • Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT with the action streaming live on ESPN+. Scott Sudikoff (PXP) and Loyola Hall of Famer, Jack Cannon (commentary), will call the game.
  • The match serves as Loyola's annual "Hustle to Hoyne" game. The Ramblers have averaged 1,031 fans for Hustle to Hoyne matches the past three seasons.
  • The Ramblers are 2-1 in Hustle to Hoyne matches in the last three seasons. Loyola Chicago beat Lindenwood last season and BGSU in 2022 but fell to Northwestern in 2021.
  • The Ramblers are coming off a 2-2 draw against Dayton this past Saturday, opening league play with a crucial point.
  • Hugo Urdiales, who scored his second career goal in the draw, was named this week's A-10 Rookie of the Week for his efforts.
  • After finishing second in the 2023 league standings, LUC was picked to finish fourth in this year's Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Maroon and Gold received two first-place votes in the poll.
  • Goalkeeper Aidan Crawford, who was named the A-10 Goalkeeper of the Year in 2023, landed on Preseason All-Conference Team. He's the sole keeper on the A-10's preseason team.
GLANCE AT DePAUL
  • Head Coach Mark Plotkin is in his seventh season at the helm of DePaul. He holds a 28-47-24 (.404) overall record with the Blue Demons.
  • 0-1 in league play, DePaul sits tied for second in the BIG EAST's Midwest Division standings. 
  • The Blue Demons stand 2-4-1 overall and most recently fell, 3-2, to No. 25 UConn to open conference play.
  • Nolan McGuire notched his first career goal and assist in the loss, earning himself BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors Monday.
  • Logan Finnegan has a team-best three goals. Noah Hernandez and Keagan Pace lead the team in points with eight each (two goals, four assists). The pair lead the league in assists.
  • Hernandez's 20 shots are the third-most in the BIG EAST. 
  • As a team, DePaul is second in the conference in goals (15) and points (45).
NOTABLE NUMBERS AND NOTES
  • Last season, Loyola Chicago compiled an 8-2-5 overall record and was 4-1-3 in conference play.
  • In its third season as part of the Atlantic 10, LUC looks to earn its first conference championship since 2019.
  • The Ramblers return 16 student-athletes from the 2023 roster, including nine with starting experience under their belt.
  • Along with their returners, the Ramblers added 13 key pieces to the 2024 roster, including 10 freshmen and three transfers.
  • The Ramblers remain undefeated when scoring two or more goals, a streak that has been ongoing since Sept. 30, 2017.
  • Luka Ivancic and Nicholas Roe, two newcomers, have started all of Loyola's matches thus far.
  • According to the NCAA, Loyola Chicago currently has the 33rd-toughest schedule in DI men's soccer with a .604 percentage. LUC's schedule is the third-toughest in the A-10.
  • Aidan Crawford has faced 93 shots thus far in the season. Last year, he faced 107 total. The keeper has averaged 2.86 saves per game, ranking 10th in the league. His 19 total saves rank seventh.
  • New to the 2024 season, the clock will stop for substitutions during the final 15 minutes if the game is tied or if the leading team makes a substitution. Substitutions are allowed during any stoppage in play. Additionally, teams are now permitted six substitutions per game.
SERIES STUFF VS. DePAUL
  • Loyola leads its all-time series with DePaul, 23-14-5.
  • The Ramblers have not lost to DePaul since Oct. 2, 2013 - a streak of 10 matches.
  • Loyola has scored two or more goals against the Blue Demons in three straight matchups.
  • Since 2004, the Ramblers are 5-1-3 against DePaul in matches played on Hoyne Field.
  • In the most recent meeting on Sept. 19, 2023, Loyola Chicago beat the Blue Demons, 4-2, on the road.
  • The 'Blers had a 20 (10) – 8 (2) advantage in shot attempts while Markus Maurer, Petar Janjic, John Gates, and Ben Bischof scored in the win.
