Ramblers Post Second Straight Sweep

CHICAGO, Ill. - For the first time this season, Loyola Chicago posted its second straight sweep after beating Duquesne to win both matches in the series. The Ramblers were led by Kaitlyn Burke who registered a match-high 14 kills. 

Loyola improved to 9-10 overall and 6-1 in A-10 play.

This marked the third sweep for the Ramblers this season.

"Second match in a row where I thought our team did a really good job with passing," said head coach Amanda Berkley. "Kaitlyn Burke transitioned to the right side really well this weekend and had another great performance offensively. It felt great to get back-to-back sweeps, and I am proud of the team for putting it together a little bit more than we did earlier this season."

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Ramblers survived a back-and-forth first set to win 25-23 in a stanza that featured six lead changes and was tied 11 times. Neither team led by more than four points in the match. Burke and Avary DeBlieck blocked the final attack to clinch set point. Burke also tallied five of Loyola's 14 kills in the set.

SET 2 | Loyola took the second set 25-15 to go up 2-0. The Ramblers led from the first point on in the set to secure the victory. Loyola opened up as much as an 11 point lead at 24-13 before closing out the set. The Ramblers hit .423 over the course of the set, led by DeBlieck who put both her attacks away. Burke also hit .833 with five more kills tallied. 

SET 3 | Loyola closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after winning the third set, 25-20. Loyola took the lead for good at 8-7 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Ramblers took over the lead. The Ramblers stepped up defensively, tallying five blocks in the third. Six different Ramblers stepped up to help block the attempts.

Game Notes

  • Burke tallied a match-high 14 kills and was the only player to reach double-figures.
  • Emma Henry had a match-high 29 assists, while Sam Falk had a match-high 14 digs.
  • Henry added a match-high two aces.
  • DeBlieck finished with eight total blocks. Burke added four.
  • This marked the first time this season Loyola posted back-to-back sweeps.
