CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team hosts VCU in its penultimate regular season home match of 2025. First touch is set for 3 p.m. at Loyola Soccer Park with the game streaming live on ESPN+.

KICKING OFF

- The Ramblers earned two road points during their trip to Philadelphia, logging draws at Saint Joseph's and La Salle to extend their unbeaten streak to four matches.
- At Saint Joseph's, the Ramblers earned a 0-0 tie, limiting the Hawks to one shot on goal as Gabe Velasco recorded his second shutout of the season.
- Velasco also survived a missed penalty in the 41st minute while Luka Ivancic, Daniel Firs, Petar Janjic, and Hugo Urdiales each recorded a shot; Urdiales had the lone shot on goal (88th minute).
- At La Salle, Jack McFeely scored his second goal of the year, assisted by Petar Janjic and Joaquin Rodriguez Ortiz, in a 1-1 draw, and Velasco tallied a career-high nine saves.
- Loyola Chicago holds a 1-1-3 record in Atlantic 10 play, giving the Ramblers six points in the conference standings. The top eight teams in the league will qualify for the Atlantic 10 Tournament.
- Following Saturday, Loyola Chicago will stay home for a Senior Day meeting with Saint Louis on Saturday, Oct. 25, before concluding the regular season at Dayton Saturday, Nov. 1.
GLANCE AT VCU
- Head Coach Dave Giffard is 124-109-57 (.526) in 16 seasons at the helm of the Rams. This season, VCU is 4-5-4 overall and 1-2-2 in A-10 play.
- Mohammed Ibrahim is ninth in the conference in game-winning goals, averaging .154 per contest.
- Keeper Trevor Maloney averages 3.08 saves per game and owns a goals against average of 1.652, ranking sixth and eighth in league, respectively.
- The Rams have battled six ranked foes this season, giving them the second hardest schedule in the NCAA as of Oct. 17, 2025.
- Most recently, VCU fell, 2-0, to (RV) Saint Louis this past Saturday in Richmond.
- Prior to that though, VCU downed No. 24 George Mason, 2-1, as Luca Estabio scored his first collegiate goal and Camilo Comi tallied the game-winner.
2025 NOTABLE NUMBERS AND NOTES
- Hugo Urdiales, a 2024 All-Conference and CSC Academic All-District pick, started 13 matches and logged 987 minutes last season. A three-time A-10 Rookie of the Week, he led Loyola in goals, shots and points, and was named to the A-10 Preseason All-Conference Team.
- Loyola was picked seventh in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches' Poll. Defending champion Dayton topped the poll with eight first-place votes, followed by George Mason and Saint Louis. The Ramblers earned 91 points in the voting by the league's 13 head coaches.
- The offseason featured plenty of activity. Grant Bailey, selected 86th overall by D.C. United in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft, returns for another season with Loyola.
- Former Ramblers Julian Cisneros and Marc Torrelles signed with FC Naples in USL League One, where they've impressed in their rookie campaigns.
- The team also spent spring break in Italy, traveling to Milan, Lake Como, Parma and Rome while facing Serie D competition.
- On the sidelines, assistant coach Ricardo Pinto returned to the staff, while former pro Kervin Kenton joined as an assistant as well.
- This season marks the first without former A-10 member Massachusetts, which moved to the Mid-American Conference in July.
- Loyola returns 17 players and seven starters responsible for 21 of its 24 goals last season, along with 59 of 72 points.
- Head coach Steve Bode, entering his fourth year at the helm, has signed nine newcomers and owns a 26-16-20 career record with the Ramblers.
SERIES STUFF VS. VCU
- In an all-time series that dates to Loyola's inaugural season in the A-10 (2022), the two teams are tied, 1-1-1.
- Last season, Loyola Chicago earned its first-ever win over VCU, defeating the defending A-10 regular season champions 2-1 in Richmond.
- Hugo Urdiales scored the game-winning goal on a free kick in the 83rd minute, marking his fourth goal of the season and second in consecutive matches.
- Grant Bailey's cross in the 55th minute deflected off a VCU defender for Loyola's first goal, leveling the score 1-1.
- Loyola's defense did not allow a single shot in the final seven minutes, preserving the win.
- Aidan Crawford recorded three saves in goal.
- Loyola outshot VCU 12-16 overall; both teams had four shots on goal.
