Ramblers Storm Past Rams in Second-Half Surge

Rossi secures second career brace.

CHICAGO -- With a slew of women's soccer alumni present, Loyola Chicago erupted for three unanswered goals in the second half to take down VCU 4-1 on Sunday, Oct. 19. The Ramblers are now 9-3-4 overall and 4-2-2 in Atlantic 10 play.

Coach Quotes: Jon Sandoval
"We talked about this last time too, not allowing the highs to get too high. Anytime you go on the road and you get three points, it's a terrific feeling, but you still have to take care of the ones at home. Home games are the ones that you're expected to win, so it was really important that we came out and had the performance that we did."

"The team's been able to adapt to different lineups because of where it starts, and that's from the very beginning in the fall when they got to know each other. They've been able to hang out for the last three or so months, and they've really invested in each other off the field. When you invest in each other off the field, it makes the bond on the field even stronger. It's been great to see our players step up and anchor a defense that is very new and has a lot of new faces. We couldn't be more proud of the performance that they've had so far."

How it Happened

  • After VCU opened scoring in the 25th minute on a penalty kick, Loyola wasted no time responding; less than a minute later, redshirt sophomore Emily Rossi netted the equalizer off a set piece just outside the box.
  • Rossi struck again early in the second half, converting in the 49th minute off a setup from Molly Pistorius and Zoe Hevey to give the Ramblers a 2-1 lead. From there, the Ramblers poured it on.
  • Pistorius tallied a goal of her own in the 81st minute – her third of the season – assisted by Angelina Perritano, before Jadyn Harris capped off the scoring in the 85th minute. Harris won a turnover ball in the midfield then danced around Rams goalkeeper Mia Pongratz, who came too far out, leaving a wide open net for the Rambler.
  • Allison Deardorff made seven saves against VCU.

Inside the Box Score

  • Rossi marked the second brace of her career.
  • Harris' goal was her third on the year.
  • Perritano and Pistorius registered their first assists in the Maroon and Gold and Hevey notched her sixth this season.
  • The Ramblers remain unbeaten at home since their season opener against Northwestern on August 14.
