CHICAGO -
Jack McFeely scored late in the first half as Loyola Chicago battled to a 1-1 draw with Atlantic 10 leaders and No. 16 Saint Louis on Saturday afternoon at Loyola Soccer Park, picking up another point in Atlantic 10 play.
"First of all, I'm really thankful and proud of our seniors," head coach
Steve Bode said. "We were definitely playing for them today. Our effort and the way we fought all the way to the end — I applaud the team for that. Saint Louis is No. 16 in the country and No. 13 in the RPI, and we made it extremely difficult on them and played them as tight as anyone this year. Of course, going up a goal, we wanted to get the win. They're a really good team with some really good players, and they made a play to tie it late. But that doesn't take away from the effort or the way we played for our seniors and everything we wanted to do on Senior Day."
How it Happened
The Ramblers (4-4-7, 1-2-4 A-10) struck first in the 45th minute when McFeely finished a well-worked combination from
Petar Janjic and
Antonio Pinto for his third goal of the season. Loyola dictated the pace early and held a 5-1 edge in first-half shots.
Saint Louis (8-2-5, 5-0-2) equalized in the 84th minute on a strike from Abdoul Karim Pare, assisted by Tanner Anderson, after mounting pressure late.
Goalkeeper
Aidan Crawford finished with three saves and helped steady a Loyola defense that played with urgency throughout the final stretch. The Ramblers maintained 53% possession while finishing with three shots on goal and limiting the Billikens to four.
A red card issued to Saint Louis in the 17th minute gave Loyola a man advantage for the remainder of the match, though the Billikens continued to attack with pace in transition.
