RICHMOND - Loyola Chicago fell short in a five-set battle on the road at VCU Saturday afternoon to split the series. Four Ramblers tallied double-figure kills, while Emma Henry had a double-double with 48 assists and 13 digs.Â
The loss dropped Loyola to 11-12 overall and 8-3 in A-10 action.
"I thought VCU played much better today and put the pressure on us," said head coach Amanda Berkley. "We needed to respond better when we go down in a set. We need to learn from this loss before hosting the league leading Flyers next weekend."
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Ramblers found themselves in an early deficit, losing the first set 25-21. Loyola trailed by as many as eight points as VCU never gave up the lead in the first. The Rams had six blocks in the set and held the Ramblers to a .179 hitting percentage.
SET 2 | Loyola  evened the match at 1-1 after a 25-19 set-two win. The Ramblers grabbed control of the set lead early on at 3-2 and held the lead the rest of the way. Loyola Chicago led by as many as 10 points at 18-8 before finishing off the set. Kate Maley and Avary DeBlieck each had a team-leading three kills.Â
SET 3 | Loyola went ahead 2-1 in the match after taking down the Rams in set three, 25-15. Loyola led by as many as 11 points. Kaitlyn Burke heated up, leading the set with five kills.
SET 4 | Loyola couldn't keep the win streak going, as the Rams forced a fifth set with a 25-12 fourth-set win. The Ramblers trailed by as many as 13 points as VCU grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4. Loyola combined for seven kills, but attack errors held the Ramblers back, hitting .000 in the set.
SET 5 | The Ramblers came up short in a back-and-forth set five, losing in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied 13 times. Neither team led by more than three points in the set. The Ramblers dropped the set despite putting together 12 of their 17 points via the kill. Burke had another five to lead the attack.

- Loyola had four players in double figures in kills and were led by Burke who finished with 15. Remmes added 11, while Maley and DeBlieck had 10 each.
- Loyola had three players in double figures in digs, including a team-high 15 by Falk.Â
