CHICAGO -- Loyola Chicago used an all-around team effort Friday night to rally for a 3-2 win over George Washington. Three Ramblers had double-doubles, three were in double-figure kills, two in double-figure assists, and four in double-figure digs.
The conference win improved Loyola's record to 6-9 overall and 3-0 in A-10 play.
Kaitlyn Burke, Ava Hunter, and Emma Henry tallied double-doubles for the Ramblers. Burke led the attack with 14 kills, Henry led with 24 assists, and Jae Fitting had a team-high 21 digs.
"I am really proud of this team tonight," said head coach Amanda Berkley. " One of the tings we said in the locker room afterwards was it was a really solid team win. This group is really gritty and everyone contributed to the win. We have to find a way to limit some errors tomorrow when we play them again."
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Ramblers fell behind early, losing the first set 25-20. Loyola trailed by as many as nine points as George Washington never surrendered the lead in a set that was tied up just once before the Revolutionaries took control. Burke led the set with three kills, while Fitting had an early eight digs.
SET 2 | Loyola fired back, taking set two 25-17, evening the match at one set apiece. The Ramblers never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 10-9 in a set that showcased four lead changes before Loyola took over the lead. Karli Molnau came alive, tallying five kills and two blocks in the set.
SET 3 | Loyola lost the third set, putting the Ramblers in a 2-1 hole. The Ramblers came up short by the score of 25-22. Loyola trailed by as many as six points as George Washington grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was tied up five times. Loyola targets its middles with Ann Marie Remmes going for six kills in the set.
SET 4 | Loyola then responded to secure set four 29-27 to force a fifth. The Ramblers came out on top of a close battle, winning in a stanza that was tied four times and had three lead changes. The Ramblers tallied 17 of their 29 points via the kill. Three Ramblers had at least three kills each. Kate Maley led with five.
SET 5 | Loyola claimed the win with a 15-8 set five victory. The Ramblers took control of the set-five lead at 4-3 and never looked back. Loyola ended strong, opening its biggest lead of the stanza, seven points, to close out the set. Loyola also supplemented their offense with three aces in the final set. Fitting's ace would go down as match point.
