Ramblers Take Third in Match Play

DADE CITY, Fla. – Loyola Chicago took third out of eight teams at the 2025 Match Play hosted by Ball State at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club Tuesday afternoon. The Ramblers beat Bowling Green in round one, fell to Richmond in round two, and took Dayton in round three for third.

"I felt really good about this week," said head coach Erik Hoops. "We had a good win against Bowling Green and then gave Richmond what they could handle yesterday. That match really could have gone both ways, and Richmond is for sure one of the favorites in the A-10 this year. Today against Dayton, we had a really well played round and a lot of guys in red numbers."

The Ramblers saw BGSU in round one of Match Play and took a 5-1 win over the Falcons. Ryan Walsh and Charlie Kulwin both posted full-round under-par scores, helping Loyola to the win. Walsh and Kulwin were both two under and finished with five birdies, while Kulwin had four birdies.

Loyola advanced to take on Richmond in round two, and Kulwin kept rolling for the Ramblers with another two-under-par round and six more birdies. Sebastian Kasun also claimed his match. He was -4 through 16 holes and tallied six birdies.

The Ramblers took on the Flyers in the final round and third-place match, winning 4-2. Walsh, Kulwin, Kasun, and Mulhearn took their matches to power the win. Walsh was even after 18 with five birdies, while Kasun was even through 17 holes and four birdies.

"Our strength of our team is our depth, and we never really had any matches get too out of hand this week. I feel really good about where we are and will continue to push ourselves these next two months. It's good to be back!"

Loyola will gear up for its next invitational on March 10-11. The Ramblers will head to Southern Pines, N.C. to play in the Baby Grande Ross Collegiate Classic.
