BRONX, N.Y. - Loyola Chicago (4-22, 0-3 A-10) dropped the final game in the series against Fordham, 12-5, on Sunday, March 16 in the opening slate of Atlantic 10 (A-10) play.
"We played well for five innings and I liked the fight I saw. We put 10 hits on the board and played great team ball early on. There are some good moments from today that will help us in our home opener next weekend," said head coach
Alicia Abbott.
How It Happened
Loyola started off strong, opening scoring in the top of the first inning after rookie
Alli Pawlowicz's bunt single drove in
Sierra Sass. Fordham quickly responded with its first run after Neleh Nogay tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nicki Sudall to even the score, 1-1.
The Ramblers pulled ahead in the third inning, 2-1, with Sass adding her second run on another RBI bunt from Pawlowicz. However, the Rams took control in the fourth frame with a four-run surge, featuring a two-run homer.
Loyola showcased its resilience in the fifth inning, reclaiming the lead with a three-run outburst. Pawlowicz's two-run double tied the game and
Maddy Hickey's RBI double gave the Ramblers a 5-4 edge, but it wasn't long before the Rams answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning, assisted by clutch hitting and a Loyola error. Fordham added four more runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
