Alli Pawlowicz Homers in Series Closer

CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago (12-29, 7-10 A-10) dropped the final series game against Dayton, 6-3, on Sunday, April 13 at Loyola Softball Park. The Flyers took both games in the doubleheader to clinch the series and their victory today secured the sweep. Rookie Alli Pawlowicz hit her fifth homer of the season in the bottom of the sixth to put the Ramblers on the board.

"We love to see our alums back out here and we love to see the crowd. I think that's a big piece to it is, how do you make sure that when they're players and they're here, they're involved and they want to keep coming back, and you're getting an experience you want to come back with, and that was absolutely what showed up today outside of the fence," said head coach Alicia Abbott. "Alli having that home run was huge. Offensively, we probably could've tacked that same pitch really early on and should have put five or six runs up early and we didn't capitalize on that. Our defense was pretty sharp, we have to clean up a few things to make sure we avoid a couple unnecessary runs, but other than that, I thought Pep [Peyton Pepkowski] did a good job coming in, and closing that game out."

How It Happened
The Flyers jumped out early in the series finale, plating three runs in the top of the first inning, sparked by an RBI double. Dayton added single runs in the fifth and seventh to stay ahead, and another RBI double in the final frame sealed the sweep. Loyola was held scoreless until the sixth inning when freshman shortstop Pawlowicz launched a solo home run down the left field line. The Ramblers staged a late rally in the seventh, powered behind Riley Owens' triple and Haley Wallace's RBI. Maddy Hickey added a run-scoring single before Nat Lesnicki flied out to left field to close out the game.

Andie Broniewicz (6-9) took the loss for Loyola after allowing five hits and three runs in the first two innings. Peyton Pepkowski subbed in and finished the last five frames with five strikeouts and three earned runs.
