EVANSTON, Ill. - Loyola Chicago (12-30, 7-10) was overpowered in a midweek matchup on Wednesday, April 16 as Northwestern stormed to a 13-0 victory in five innings on their home field.
How It Happened
The Wildcats struck early and often, plating six runs in the opening inning behind a two-run home run from fifth-year infielder Kaylie Avvisato and a three-run blast by the redshirt freshman Signe Dohse. Northwestern tacked on two more runs in the second inning and another five between the third and fourth innings, including a two-run homer and a string of RBI hits that cushioned the Wildcats' lead.
Loyola was limited to just one hit after
Haley Wallace launched a double in the first frame. The Ramblers struggled to generate offense against the Wildcats' starting pitcher sophomore Riley Grudzielanek, who pitched four scoreless innings before fifth-year Emma Blea closed out the fifth with a clean relief inning. Senior pitcher
Peyton Pepkowski (6-19) took the loss for Loyola after giving up eights runs, six earned, in one inning of work. Both
Maddy Hickey and
Andie Broniewicz came in for relief and combined for the final three frames.
The Ramblers committed three errors and were outhit 15-1 on the day. Northwestern did not commit an error.
