Loyola Chicago Sweeps UMass in Doubleheader

Pawlowicz hits a homer in each game.

AMHERST, Mass. - Loyola Chicago (14-30, 9-10 A-10) secured a doubleheader sweep against Massachusetts on Friday, April 18 after a 5-0 shutout in the opener and outlasting the Minutewomen 6-5 in the second game.

"I loved the fight we saw out of our team today. Pep [Peyton Pepkowski] and Andie [Broniewicz] performed well on the mound. Alli [Pawlowicz] being able to take advantage of her pitch in back-to-back games was huge for us as a whole. Offensively, we did a great job of executing to get them on, get them over, get them in," said head coach Alicia Abbott.

Game One: Loyola 5, Massachusetts 0
In the series opening game, the Ramblers plated all five of their runs in the second inning. Riley Owens launched a single to left field, allowing Skyler Croker and Sierra Sass to score. Moments later, rookie Alli Pawlowicz homered to left field and scored Haley Wallace and Owens. Loyola kept UMass scoreless the remainder of the game. Senior pitcher Peyton Pepkowski tossed a complete-game shutout while striking out seven batters and allowing just three hits.

  • Pawlowicz had the team high three RBIs after recording her sixth homer of the year.

The Ramblers added three insurance runs in the closing inning thanks to a single by Wallace and an RBI hit from Bella Crimaldi.
