Loyola Chicago Travels to SIUE

First touch set for 7 p.m. CT on ESPN+

CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team hits the road for the first time outside the Chicagoland area this season on Thursday, Sept. 11, when it travels to face SIUE at Ralph Korte Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
  • Loyola Chicago heads to Edwardsville after falling, 2-1, in the Red Line Rivalry against DePaul on the road. The loss marked Loyola's first of the 2025 season.
  • Antonio Pinto scored LUC's sole goal of the evening, bringing his season total to a team-high three. His three goals are tied for the second-most in the A-10 while his .600 goals per game ranks tied for third. His 1.20 points per game ranks seventh in the league.
  • The Ramblers are one of the best teams in the conference in sharing the ball. Loyola ranks third with 1.80 assists per game. As individuals, Jack McFeely ranks third in the A-10 in assists per game (.600), Arved von Vegesack (.600) is fourth, and Luka Ivancic (.400) is seventh.
  • Also making noise is Hugo Urdiales who leads the team and is third in the conference in shots on-target per game (1.20).  Meanwhile, his 13 total shots put him seventh in the A-10.
  • Keeper Gabe Velasco, a transfer from North Carolina, has led Loyola in minutes between the posts. He's racked up 12 saves and holds a save percentage of .706 which ranks fourth in the league. He averages 3.00 saves per game, the eighth-most in the conference. He's allowed no more than two goals in a single match this season and posted a shutout against Purdue Fort Wayne on Aug. 24.
  • Following Thursday, Loyola returns home to face UIC Monday, Sept. 15, for the program's Latine Heritage Appreciation Game.
GLANCE AT SIUE
  • Head Coach Cale Wassermann is in his seventh season at the helm of the Cougars. He holds a 53-38-14 (.571) career record in Edwardsville.
  • This season, SIUE holds a 1-3 record, with the team's sole win coming over Air Force on the road.
  • Evan Howard leaves the team in goals (three) and shots (11). Goalkeeper Noah Scheidweiler's 14 saves leads the team.
  • Last season, SIUE won the Ohio Valley Conference Championship, but fell to Western Michigan in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
NOTABLE NUMBERS AND NOTES

  • Loyola was picked seventh in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches' Poll. Defending champion Dayton topped the poll with eight first-place votes, followed by George
  • Mason and Saint Louis. The Ramblers earned 91 points in the voting by the league's 13 head coaches.
  • The offseason featured plenty of activity. Grant Bailey, selected 86th overall by D.C. United in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft, returns for another season with Loyola.
  • Former Ramblers Julian Cisneros and Marc Torrelles signed with FC Naples in USL League One, where they've impressed in their rookie campaigns.
  • The team also spent spring break in Italy, traveling to Milan, Lake Como, Parma and Rome while facing Serie D competition.
  • On the sidelines, assistant coach Ricardo Pinto returned to the staff, while former pro Kervin Kenton joined as an assistant as well.
  • This season marks the first without former A-10 member Massachusetts, which moved to the Mid-American Conference in July.
  • Loyola returns 17 players and seven starters responsible for 21 of its 24 goals last season, along with 59 of 72 points.
  • Head coach Steve Bode, entering his fourth year at the helm, has signed nine newcomers and owns a 23-14-17 career record with the Ramblers.
SERIES STUFF VS. SIUE
  • In an all-time series that dates 2008, Loyola leads SIUE, 7-4-1.
  • The Ramblers have won three of the last four meetings with the Cougars.
  • Every one of Loyola's wins over SIUE has been in shutout fashion.
  • In the most recent meeting on Halloween of 2021, SIUE escaped LUC, at home, 1-0, in double overtime.
  • The two teams met twice that season though. In the first meeting, Loyola exploded for a 3-0 win at Hoyne Field. Julian Cisneros, Oscar Dueso, and Marc Torellas scored for LUC.
  • Loyola did not allow its opponent a shot on goal, out-shooting the Cougars by a 14-3 margin.
