Hevey's Brace, Deardorff's Shutout Secures Loyola Chicago 2-0 Win

Hevey sets career high while Deardorff marks new season high.

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Junior forward Zoe Hevey scored twice and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Allison Deardorff turned away seven shots to earn Loyola Chicago a 2-0 victory at Eastern Michigan on Thursday, Sept. 11. The Ramblers improved to 5-1-1 overall.

Coach Quotes: Jon Sandoval
"Winning on the road is hard. It presents different challenges. The structure is different, the routine is different. We were very grateful for a great Rambler crowd that traveled to the match."

"While we were not our best today, we found a way. Good teams find a way even when they are not their best. As I mentioned, winning is hard, and we handled hard well today. Our journey only gets more difficult, we need to continue to progress forward."

How It Happened
  • The Ramblers nearly broke through in the opening minutes, forcing Eagles' keeper Ella Holland into early saves on attempts from Emily Rossi, Emily Roberts and Hevey.
  • Eastern Michigan countered with early pressure of its own, with Deardorff making her first save in the 12th minute.
  • Loyola broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when Hevey sank a beautiful cross into the goal's bottom right corner, with some help from the post. Deardorff made three more stops to close out the half.
  • With the Ramblers' 1-0 advantage heading into the second half, the Eagles came out aggressive, and Deardorff denied two more chances to keep EMU scoreless.
  • Hevey doubled Loyola's lead, slotting home another unassisted strike from outside the box in the 66th minute to complete her brace and keep EMU out of reach.
Inside the Box Score
  • Hevey scored the game-winner for her first goal of the season then added an insurance goal to secure the first brace of her career.
  • Deardorff's seven saves marks a season high and her sixth consecutive clean sheet.
  • Hevey led the way with three shots, all on target, then Rossi added two attempts (1 SOG) while Roberts and Jadyn Harris each took one shot on-frame.
