Women's Soccer Draws, 1-1, at Marquette

Ramblers tie Golden Eagles for first time ever.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- In their first meeting since 2014, Loyola Chicago and Marquette battled to a 1-1 draw on Sunday, Sept. 14 in both teams' nonconference finale. It marks the first-ever draw between the Ramblers and Golden Eagles in the all-time series.

The draw moved Loyola's record to 5-1-2 overall.

Coach Quotes: Jon Sandoval
"Overall, I think it's a fair result. We had our chances and Marquette had theirs. We battled hard, but weren't clinical and decisive enough to win. Three matches in seven days is tough, and the team emptied the tank."

"It was great preparation leading into conference play, tonight was a grind and that's how the A-10 is. Being undefeated on the road so far is impressive. We will continue to find ways to improve, because we believe the group is committed."

How it Happened

  • The Ramblers' breakthrough came early, as senior forward Molly Pistorius struck in the sixth minute. Pistorius collected a pass from junior forward Zoe Hevey and buried her second goal of the season to give Loyola the 1-0 lead early in the match. It's the second time this season the pair have connected on a goal.
  • Loyola's defense, anchored by redshirt sophomore Allison Deardorff, had three total saves and protected her team's advantage deep into the second half. In the 75th minute, Marquette found the equalizer when Jocelyn Leigh had a header goal, assisted by Clare Shea and Meg Decker.
  • Both sides traded chances late, but neither team could find a winner across a physical 90 minutes.
  • In the end, Loyola generated eight shots and two corners while Marquette produced 11 attempts and a pair of set pieces.

Inside the Box Score

  • Loyola's first shot of the game was Pistorius' goal.
  • In addition to the Ramblers' first-ever draw with the Golden Eagles, it was also their first goal scored against the Big East opponent since 1992.
  • Women's soccer's 5-1-2 record is their best start to the season since 2022 when the Ramblers opened 4-2-2 before conference play.
  • Loyola's 4-0-1 road record in nonconference play is a program-best since at least 2004.
