Loyola Chicago Hosts UIC for Latine Heritage Appreciation Game

First touch set for 7 p.m. CT on ESPN+

CHICAGO - The Loyola University Chicago men's soccer team ends its non-conference slate Monday (Sept. 15) as it welcomes crosstown foe UIC to Loyola Soccer Park. First touch from Hoyne Field is set for 7 p.m. CT on ESPN+. Scott Sudikoff (play by play) and Loyola Chicago Hall of Famer, Jack Cannon (color), will call the action.

KICKING OFF
  • The program will be celebrating Latine Heritage Appreciation Night against the Flames. For $15, fans will receive a ticket to the game and a Los Ramblers t-shirt available for pickup at the match. To purchase, head to RamblerTickets.com.
  • Most recently, Loyola Chicago rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to secure a 2-1 win over SIUE on the road this past Thursday at Ralph Korte Stadium.
  • The Ramblers (2-1-3) found the back of the net twice in the final 15 minutes to earn the come-from-behind victory.
  • Loyola Chicago equalized in the 76th minute through Luka Ivancic's first goal of the season, assisted by Petar Janjic.
  • Moments later, SIUE went down to 10 men, and the Ramblers capitalized as Ben Bischoff netted the 78th-minute game-winner off a feed from Benji Chavarria.
  • Keeper Frankie Pinto made his first start between the posts for the Ramblers.
  • Gabe Velasco relived him and notched four saves against 15 shots, marking his third-straight game logging four saves.
  • UIC will be the fifth and final in-state foe Loyola faces this season (including exhibitions).
  • Following Monday night, LUC will prepare for its first Atlantic 10 opponent of the season as it faces Rhode Island on the road Saturday, Sept. 20.
GLANCE AT UIC
  • Head Coach Sean Phillips is in his 16th season at the helm of UIC. He holds a career record of 142-104-28 (.569).
  • UIC leads the nation in shots per game (22.40) and shots on goal per game (10.40). It also ranks in the top-10 in assists per game (3.60) and points per game (9.20).
  • The Flames are currently undefeated with a 5-0-1 mark. 
  • Two-time MVC Player of the Week Edouard Nys leads the league in goals (7), assists (5), points (18), shots (35), and shots on goal (18).
  • Keeper Owen Cornell has two shutouts this season with a .727 save percentage.
NOTABLE NUMBERS AND NOTES

  • Loyola was picked seventh in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches' Poll. Defending champion Dayton topped the poll with eight first-place votes, followed by George
  • Mason and Saint Louis. The Ramblers earned 91 points in the voting by the league's 13 head coaches.
  • The offseason featured plenty of activity. Grant Bailey, selected 86th overall by D.C. United in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft, returns for another season with Loyola.
  • Former Ramblers Julian Cisneros and Marc Torrelles signed with FC Naples in USL League One, where they've impressed in their rookie campaigns.
  • The team also spent spring break in Italy, traveling to Milan, Lake Como, Parma and Rome while facing Serie D competition.
  • On the sidelines, assistant coach Ricardo Pinto returned to the staff, while former pro Kervin Kenton joined as an assistant as well.
  • This season marks the first without former A-10 member Massachusetts, which moved to the Mid-American Conference in July.
  • Loyola returns 17 players and seven starters responsible for 21 of its 24 goals last season, along with 59 of 72 points.
  • Head coach Steve Bode, entering his fourth year at the helm, has signed nine newcomers and owns a 24-14-17 career record with the Ramblers.
SERIES STUFF VS. UIC
  • In an all-time series that dates 1990, Loyola Chicago trails UIC, 14-19-4.
  • In the most recent meeting (Sept. 12, 2024), the Ramblers fell, 2-0, at Flames Field. 
  • Loyola Chicago had five shots compared to UIC's 10.
  • The former Horizon League foes racked up 26 fouls throughout the match while Loyola led in corners, 6-5.
  • Loyola Chicago won five of six meetings from 2010 to 2016. Since though, UIC's record versus the Maroon and Gold is 3-1-2.
