BRONX, N.Y. - The Ramblers totaled 50 kills on the way to a three-set sweep (25-21, 25-19, 25-22) over Fordham Friday on the road in the Atlantic 10 opener.
The conference win improved Loyola Chicago's record to 4-9 overall and 1-0 in A-10 action.
The Ramblers were led by a double-double from Leyna Nguyen, who registered 10 kills and 14 digs on the day. Karli Molnau also added nine kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Sam Falk chipped in for with 14 digs to go with two blocks from Ann Marie Remmes.
"We're happy to open the A-10 schedule with a win after some tough non-conference opponents," said head coach Amanda Berkly. "I thought our passers did a good job tonight of passing to target and managing their serves. Our middles did a nice job being available. We will look to limit some hitting errors tomorrow and hope to come away 2-0 after the road trip."
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Ramblers grabbed control on the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to secure the first set 25-21. Loyola led by 10 points at 18-8 before finishing off the set, totaling 17 kills along the way.
SET 2 | Loyola took set two 25-19 to swiftly take a 2-0 lead. The Ramblers took control of the set lead early on at 5-4 and held the lead the rest of the way. Loyola Chicago opened its biggest lead of the stanza, six points, to close out the set, totaling 17 kills .
SET 3 | Loyola took the third set to win in straight sets. The Ramblers the set the third set 25-22. Loyola Chicago took the lead for good at 15-14 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Ramblers took over in the second half of the stanza.
