BRONX, N.Y. - Josie Halbleib secured a triple-double with 10 kills, 10 digs, and 31 assists to power the Loyola Chicago volleyball team to a 3-1 victory (25-18, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18) over the Fordham Rams Saturday.
Loyola improves to 5-9 overall and 2-0 in A-10 play.
Halbleib's triple-double with 10 kills, 10 digs, and 31 assists led the Ramblers in the contest. Kaitlyn Burke also added 15 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Jae Fitting chipped in for with 19 digs to go with five blocks from Ann Marie Remmes.
"Fordham is a very good blocking team and made it very tough for us to score," said head coach Amanda Berkley. "I am proud of the team for fighting for the two wins this weekend. I thought we got a lot of production out of the middles and proud of them for being up and available."
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Ramblers seized an early lead, easily winning the first set 25-18. Loyola never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Ramblers took over. Loyola also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set. All three aces were recorded by Leyna Nguyen.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Loyola took a narrow set two, 25-23. It was a back and forth set that featured eight ties and five lead changes. The Ramblers racked up 17 kills over the course of the set. Burke had seven kills in the second.
SET 3 | Fordham claimed its first ever set win against Loyola in the third. The Ramblers came up short by the score of 25-22. Loyola trailed by as many as six points as Fordham grabbed the advantage for good at 21-20 in a set that was tied up two times before the Rams took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 4 | Loyola then responded to claim the match win with a 25-18 fourth-set victory. The Ramblers took the lead for good at 15-14 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Ramblers took over in the second half of the stanza. The Ramblers hit .300 and 19 of their 25 points came via the kill. Avary DeBlieck had six kills to lead the team.
