Loyola Stumbles at Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio – Loyola Chicago fell in Friday's prime time match-up at Dayton, 78-51. Miles Rubin led the Ramblers with 14 points, while Kymany Houinsou added 10.
 
The Ramblers slip to 5-14 overall and 1-5 in A-10 play.
 
How It Happened
Both teams got off to a slow start Friday. The Flyers connected first at the 17:20 mark, while Rubin got the Ramblers on the board at 16:48. Three minutes later, Rubin sparked a 9-0 run that pushed the Ramblers ahead. Nic Anderson drained a three for a 9-8 edge, while Houinsou put the Ramblers up five by the 11:50 mark.
 
Dayton was scoreless for over three minutes during Loyola's run but chipped its way back in to tie it 17-17. Houinsou had four straight points in a 6-0 stretch, and Loyola would stay ahead at the 3:43 media timeout, 26-23. The Flyers converted late free throws on a 7-0 run to regain a lead, and the Ramblers trailed by one at the break, 31-30.
 
Unlike the first half, Dayton got off to a hot start to open the second. The Flyers used a 10-2 run and took their first double-digit lead on a three with 16:49 to go, 44-34. Rubin scored four straight for Loyola by the 12:08 mark to cut the lead to seven, while Deywilk Tavarez's three-pointer with 9:44 on the clock cut it to seven one final time.
 
An 18-2 run spanned nearly six minutes for the Flyers to blow by the Ramblers down the stretch. Dayton closed the game with back-to-back threes to win, 78-51.
 
Inside the Box Score
- Rubin led the Ramblers with 14 points on 7-15 from the field. He tallied eight boards, one assist, one steal, and two blocks.
- Houinsou scored 10 on 4-7 with six boards, three assists, one steal, and two blocks.
- Tavarez had nine off the bench with five rebounds and two assists.
- Joshua Ola-Joseph totaled eight points, six rebounds, and one block.
