CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago fell Wednesday night to a visiting Davidson squad, 79-64.
Nic Anderson and
Kymany Houinsou led the Ramblers with 13 points each. It marked season-highs for both.
Loyola falls to 5-11 overall and 1-2 in A-10 play.
"We were shorthanded tonight, and I thought the guys who were available did a really good job from a mentality standpoint of still doing whatever they could to compete," said head coach
Drew Valentine. "We ran out of gas in the second half. We stopped doing what allowed us to get in position in the first half, which was our defense and getting out in transition. But I commend our guys for going out there to compete."
How It Happened
Davidson got ahead early Wednesday night by scoring the first five points and getting ahead 13-5 by the first media timeout.
Kymany Houinsou had a baseline dunk to give the Ramblers some life, but the Wildcats built their lead to double-digits on a three at the 12:54 mark and led by as much as 15 with just under 10 to play.
Loyola used a pair of runs to battle back. A 6-0 run that was capped with a put-back dunk from
Joshua Ola-Joseph cut the lead down to single-digits.
Nic Anderson then scored five straight of a 7-0 run that saw a 34-34 tied game at the line with free throws from Alex Richardson at the 2:50 mark. The wildcats stayed in control and scored the final six points of the half to take a 45-36 lead into the break.
Davidson's lead climbed back to 15 with an 8-0 solo run by Parker Friedrichsen. He drove in for a layup with 9:48 to play and give Davidson a 17-point edge, 66-49. The Wildcats took their largest lead at 19 with 2:37 to go, but final buckets from Anderson and
Zachary Royster cut it back down. Davidson wins, 79-64.
