CHICAGO – Loyola Chicago women's soccer earned another point in A10 play with a 1-1 draw against Saint Louis Sunday afternoon. The draw extends Loyola's unbeaten streak to 11 matches.
The Ramblers sit at 5-2-7 overall and 2-0-4 in conference action.
"I thought today was a really good battle," said head coach
Jon Sandoval. "Saint Louis is obviously a talented team. We started out giving them too much respect, but we woke up once they scored that goal and had a great response. We got the point at home and even though it wasn't exactly what we were looking for, it's a positive step against a great team."
How It Happened
The Billikens controlled the first half, taking six shots to the Ramblers' one. Despite the edge, Loyola held Saint Louis scoreless in the first 45 and didn't allow a shot on target.
Both teams felt the pressure in the second, amping up the energy. SLU put the first goal on the board nearly four minutes into the half.
Sarah Collins fouled in the box, giving the Billikens a penalty kick in the 49
th minute. Lucie Schwartz found the back of the net on the PK.
Maggie Schmidt scored the equalizer five minutes later.
Emily Roberts set up a free kick from the left side that found Schmidt in the box. She headed the ball low right to tie the match, 1-1. The Billikens would put three more attempts on target in the final 15 minutes, but the match stayed tied as time expired, 1-1.
