NEW YORK – Loyola Chicago battled back from a 19-point deficit in the first half to get within one of Fordham with just under three minutes to play. The Rams held on to the win with late baskets from the league's leading scorer, 62-59.
Xavier Amos led the Ramblers with 19 points.
Loyola falls to 6-21 overall and 2-12 in A-10 play.
How It Happened
The Ramblers and Rams traded baskets to open Wednesday's game.
Daniil Glazkov put Loyola on the board, while Amos gave the Ramblers a 5-3 edge early. He'd connect on a three with 16:57 to play in the half, before the Fordham outscored Loyola 26-4 over the next nine minutes. Loyola came out of that stretch with nine unanswered points. Amos had six of them, but the Rams would hang on at the break, 33-21.
The teams traded 6-0 runs to open the second, but the Ramblers started to gain momentum on a 7-1 stretch that saw a three from
Kayde Dotson to cut the lead down to 10 by the 13:01 mark. Loyola came out of the 12-minute media timeout with another eight unanswered points. Amos got the run going, while
Miles Rubin scored the next six to get the Ramblers within six of the Rams.
Dotson led the Ramblers on an 8-0 run that would get Loyola within one of the Rams. He drained a three, while
Justin Moore capitalized on a steal, feeding
Deywilk Tavarez for a fast break three to make it 55-54 with 2:57 to play. DeJour Reaves put Fordham on his back, scoring six straight points for the Rams who went on to win, 62-59.
