NEW ORLEANS – The Rambler men's golf team wrapped up a two-day event at New Orleans Tuesday afternoon. Loyola Chicago competed in the Gulf Coast Collegiate on the par-72, 7,297-yard English Turn Golf & Country Club.
"I'm proud of how the guys battled. Playing 36 holes the first day in 25-30 mph winds was certainly a mental battle," said head coach Peter Pougnet. "We hung on the best we could, but we came out today in more normal conditions and had the second best round of the day to vault us up to second. Our best finish of the year to date."
Charlie Kulwin led the Ramblers, finishing +10 after three rounds. He scored 226 (80-73-73) to pace the pack and tie for fourth. He led the team with 37 pars, which tied second in the tournament.
Next up for the Ramblers, Sebastian Kasun, who was tied for 14th on the charts. He posted a three-round score of 229 (75-81-73). He led the team with 12 birdies, which also led the tournament.
Dori Lee was also tied for 14th place and a score of 229 (80-79-70). He trailed behind Kulwin with 9 birdies, which tied second in the tournament.
Zach Mulhearn and Connor Woodin wrapped up team play. Mulhearn placed 26th with a score of 233 (78-82-73), while Woodin scored 240 (88-80-72) for 44th place.
"I'm super proud of Charlie, who gave himself a chance to win at the end. Also, Connor improved greatly throughout the event and played a big round for us today. Looking forward to competing again in a couple of weeks."
The Ramblers will take a week off before heading to North Carolina. Loyola will compete March 9-11 at Ross Collegiate hosted by George Mason.
