Loyola Chicago Secure Back-to-Back Walk-Off Wins

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Loyola Chicago earned back-to-back walk-off wins on day one at the Wolfpack Classic, first taking down Toledo 5-3 then edging Lehigh 7-6 on Friday, Feb. 27. Freshman pitcher Anna Kiel (4-2) picked up both wins for the Ramblers, who improved to 8-9 overall, and junior Liz Sedakis led the Ramblers at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs in game one, and going 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs in game two.

Coaches Quote: Alicia Abbott
"Liz [Sedakis] had an unbelievable day at the plate and really set the tone for us offensively. I'm proud of the way we competed from the first pitch to the last. This group never let up. We played true team ball, did a great job getting runners on early and putting pressure on the defense, and our defense executed behind our pitchers when it mattered most."

Game One: Loyola 5, Toledo 3
Loyola scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh after Toledo tied it up in the top half, sealing the victory on an RBI groundout from junior Sedakis. The Ramblers opened scoring, putting two runs on the board in the first frame before expanding their advantage in the third inning after the Rockets cut it to 2-1. Sedakis came across to score the lone run of the inning for Loyola, bringing the score to 3-1.

Toledo rallied to tie the ballgame at 3-3 before Loyola walked it off in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a two RBI homer from Sedakis. Rookie Katie Geydoshek also made an impact for the Ramblers, starting the game and pitching 4.1 innings, giving up three hits, with one walk and a strikeout.

Game Two: Loyola 7, Lehigh 6
The Ramblers rallied to score two in the seventh inning and walked it off on an RBI groundout from sophomore Averi Vander Woude to secure the victory over the Mountain Hawks. In the batter's box, Loyola was led by Sedakis, who went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Vander Woude also compiled a noteworthy day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs while graduate student Adelina Staden also helped out, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate and adding two RBIs.

Loyola got the scoring started early as sophomore Alli Pawlowicz came across to score the lone run of the inning. Lehigh battled to tie the ballgame at one before Loyola came back to retake the lead in the third frame, scoring three runs, buoyed by Staden.
