NEW BRAUNFELS, TX. — The Loyola Chicago women's golf team finished in 12th place at the first event of their spring season.
The Ramblers ended the Texas State Invitational with a team score of 72-over-par (+19, +20, +33). Host Texas State won its fourth consecutive team title at the tournament with a final score of 18-under-par while Tarleton State's Louise Depadt claimed the individual title with a score of 11-under-par.
"We did a lot of good things in the first two rounds," said head coach Brandy Johnston. "We bounced back from bad holes, made some nice par saves, and looked pretty good coming off the offseason and playing outside for the first time. Grace Durkin and Cassie put together two solid rounds on day one, while Grace Hui battled back from a slow start in the first round, which was good to see."
For the fourth time this season, Cassie Psuik led the Loyola team. Psuik finished the tournament in a tie for 34th place with a score of +13 (+3,+1,+9). She also ended with seven birdies this week, which was the team lead for the event.
In addition, two Ramblers finished with career-best 54-hole scores this tournament. Freshman Maureen O'Leary ended tied for 50th place with a final score of +18 (+4,+8,+6), which was good for the team's second-best performance. Junior Amelia Gatti, who played as an individual, finished tied for 68th with a score of +26 (+5,+11,+10).
"A highlight from the week was the play of freshman Maureen O'Leary," continued coach Johnston. "This was her first time in the team lineup, and she was our most consistent performer. I was really impressed with how she stepped up in this role, and I look forward to seeing what she can do with future opportunities."
Grace Durkin and Teagan Connors, who played as an individual, finished the Texas State Invitational tied for 53rd place with scores of +20. Grace Hui ended with a score of +21, which landed her in a tie for 59th place. Finally, Madison Haugen finished with a score of +37 for the week.
The Ramblers' next event will be the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational. The tournament will be hosted by Western Michigan University and will be held in Rio Verde, Arizona Feb. 20-22.
