ST. LOUIS – Wednesday's first half saw five lead changes between Loyola Chicago and Saint Louis before the Billikens found their stride in the second half to take the win, 79-65.
Xavier Amos dropped a season-high 25 points on 9-12 from the field with a career-high six three-pointers made.
With the loss, Loyola falls to 7-23 overall and 3-14 in A-10 play.
How It Happened
The Ramblers got on the board first with a hookshot from
Miles Rubin after he had a pair of blocks on the other end. Despite a close 8-6 SLU lead at the first media timeout, the Billikens gained momentum with a 12-0 run and three straight threes to go up 18-6 and force a Loyola timeout with 12:24 to play.
Rubin snapped the streak, while
Xavier Amos stepped up with three straight threes to get the Ramblers within two by the 8:07 mark and force the Billikens to call timeout. The break didn't stop the Ramblers with a bucket from Rubin to follow, tying the game 22-22.
Kayde Dotson got in on the action with a three for the Ramblers to retake the lead, 25-24 with just under 6:30 to play. The remainder of the half saw three more lead changes, and the Billkens took the a 40-32 lead at the break.
The Billikens opened the second on an 11-2 run to go back up by double-figures and take their largest lead yet at the 14:33 mark. Dotson and Amos later made threes of their own to keep the Rambler offense moving.
Daniil Glazkov and Dotson drained two more back-to-back to cut the lead down to nine with 12:01 to play, 55-46.
Dotson kept Loyola within single-digits twice more, including on one more three at the 8:36 mark, but SLU scored the next eight. The Billiken lead increased to 17 twice more down the stretch, and they went on to win, 79-65.
