Ramblers Defeat Rams in Doubleheader

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Loyola Chicago took both games of the doubleheader at Rhode Island on Saturday, April 11. The Ramblers shut out the Rams 4-0 in game one before rallying back with a 5-3 victory in the second. 

Game One | Loyola Chicago 4, Rhode Island 0
Freshman pitcher Anna Kiel was dealing in game one, tossing a three-hit shutout to lead the Loyola over Rhode. Kiel (9-5) went the distance, giving up three hits, walking three and striking out three. In the batter's box, the Ramblers were paced by junior Nat Lesnicki, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Averi Vander Woude furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. 

Loyola took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning. Sophomore Alli Pawlowicz came across to score the lone run of the inning. The Ramblers then tacked on runs in the fifth and seventh innings, with their biggest output coming in the fifth when they scored twice.

Game Two: Loyola Chicago 5, Rhode Island 3
Junior pitcher Brooke Steinhorst (3-7) got the win for Loyola in game two. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on three hits, allowing three walks and striking out three. At the plate, the Ramblers were led by Vander Woude, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a triple, a walk and two RBIs. Junior Nat Lesnicki compiled a standout day as well, going 1-for-4 with two RBIs. 

Trailing 3-0, the Ramblers first put runs on the board in the third inning as senior Sierra Sass came across to score the lone run. Loyola kept the deficit at 3-1 before taking a 4-3 lead in the fifth. Loyola kept Rhode Island scoreless before building their lead to 5-3 in the seventh inning. The score remained 5-3 for the rest of the game, as Loyola held on for the win.
