Lesnicki and Sedakis Shine in Series Closer at Rhode Island

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Junior Nat Lesnicki and redshirt sophomore Liz Sedakis each racked up two extra base hits to help propel Loyola Chicago over Rhode Island, 7-2, on Sunday, April 12. The Ramblers improved to 20-19 overall and 12-3 in Atlantic 10 play after securing its fourth conference series of the season.

Freshman pitcher Katie Geydoshek (4-5) started in the circle and grabbed the win, going seven innings, giving up two runs, on three hits, and striking out one. Lesnicki's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-4 day, and included a double, a home run and two RBIs. Sedakis had a double, a home run, a walk and two RBIs, part of a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

Coaches Quote: Alicia Abbott
"I'm really proud of how we showed up and competed from start to finish this weekend; winning on the road is never easy. Our team stayed locked in every game and our pitchers set the tone early, which carried that momentum through the series. Opening with a shutout and having multiple arms step up and take wins speaks to our depth.

Offensively, we produced in key moments with timely hitting, executing situationally and extra-base hits. Liz and Nat were on fire for us all weekend, all of our batters were. It was a complete team effort and an example of the softball we're capable of playing."

How It Happened
Loyola got the scoring started early as Lesnicki doubled to center field to score senior Sierra Sass from second. The Rams put one run up on the board before the Ramblers reclaimed the lead in the third inning thanks to Lesnicki's and Sedakis' back-to-back home runs. Rhode Island narrowed the lead to 3-2 before Loyola stretched the advantage to 5-2 in the fifth frame.

Loyola held Rhode Island scoreless and built on its lead late in the game. Freshman Alexis Hansen and Sedakis each scored a run in the seventh inning, cementing the score at 7-2.
