CHICAGO, Ill. -- Loyola Chicago secured its fifth Atlantic 10 series of the season after sweeping George Washington in the doubleheader on Saturday, April 18 at Loyola Softball Park. Freshman Anna Kiel (9-5) got the win for the Ramblers in game one and junior Maddy Hickey (4-2) picked up the victory in game two.
Game One | Loyola Chicago 4, George Washington 2
Loyola won a nail-biter 4-2 game to start the day. Kiel went six innings, giving up one run on five hits and striking out two. Offensively, the Ramblers were led by grad student Adelina Staden, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a walk and an RBI. Senior Sierra Sass went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Loyola got on the scoreboard first in the fourth inning, scoring twice, with Sass crossing home plate then Abby Johnson plated one on Staden's single. The Ramblers then held the Revolutionaries scoreless and picked up another pair of runs in the fifth frame. George Washington scored two runs before the game was over, but Loyola held on for the win.
Game Two | Loyola Chicago 5, George Washington 4
The Ramblers needed 10 innings to finish the job in game two, pulling off a 5-4 walkoff win thanks to Sass. Trailing 4-0, Loyola got on the scoreboard late in the fifth inning as sophomore Averi Vander Woude drove in two runs on a single, scoring rookie Megan Piotrowski and Sass. The Ramblers tied it up in the seventh, pushing two more runs across. Sophomore Alli Pawlowicz came across to clinch the win.
