MADISON, Wis. -- Loyola Chicago had a 6-2 lead into the sixth inning, but could not hang on and fell 7-6 to Wisconsin on Wednesday, April 8. Freshman pitcher Anna Kiel (7-5) came out of the bullpen for the Ramblers and took the loss.
Junior pitcher Brooke Steinhorst was a bright spot for Loyola, starting the ballgame and throwing 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on three hits. Offensively, the Ramblers were paced by sophomore Averi Vander Woude, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Redshirt sophomore Liz Sedakis put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs and junior Nat Lesnicki also contributed, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
How It Happened
The Ramblers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning thanks to an RBI single from Sedakis to score Vander Woude. Loyola then held the Wisconsin scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. The Ramblers brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Sedakis' single, bringing the score to 3-0.
Loyola expanded its lead to 6-0 the following inning. The Ramblers were unable to hold the lead, as the Badgers scored seven times over the remaining three innings to secure the 7-6 win.
